
A well known medical author with over two decades of experience in global clinical development, in companies both large and small.
As the founder President and CEO of Daiichi Medical Research Inc, USA (DMR), Dr. Bullingham built and recruited a global organization for early and late clinical development, with a focus on early decision strategies. DMR-USA grew to over 150 staff, and included subsidiaries in London and in Tokyo. Under Dr. Bullingham’s leadership, DMR was responsible for an enhanced valuation of the portfolio, which contributed substantially to favorable terms in the Daiichi-Sankyo merger. DMR management was honored as finalists of 'Scrip Award 2005: Best Management Team of the Year.’
Dr. Bullingham is UK-trained physician (Cambridge & London) with post-graduate qualifications in Chemistry and Anesthesia, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anesthetists (London). During his early academic career, he founded and directed the Pain Relief Research Unit at Abingdon, Oxford where he performed extensive contract work on analgesics (mostly opioids and NSAIDs) for the pharmaceutical industry.
Dr. Bullingham started his industry career with Syntex Clinical Research-Europe and spent 13 years in positions of increasing responsibility in all phases of clinical development. He was VP and Worldwide Director of Clinical Pharmacology, Syntex Medical Research, during the Roche acquisition, when he was appointed VP, Medical Research, Roche Global Development in Palo Alto, CA.
His global experience grew during his tenure as VP, Global Clinical Pharmacology at Pharmacia Corporation, after a succession of mergers, with sites in USA-Kalamazoo (former Upjohn), USA-Skokie (former Searle), USA-San Francisco (former Sugen), Sweden-Stockholm (former Pharmacia), Italy-Nerviano (former Carlo Erba), UK-High Wycombe (former Searle), Japan-Tokyo and Singapore.
Dr. Bullingham has provided clinical and clinical pharmacology consultancy to Swiss & Japanese pharmaceutical and a number of West Coast start-up companies. He has been an active member on several committees for early drug development, genomic partnership initiatives, global genomics strategy for development research, and PhRMA QTc and clinical pharmacology committees.
Dr. Bullingham has more than 140 publications with 80 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, and invited reviews.
